Joel, Zach and Nathan have finished their semester at Balgowlah Boys Extension Studies. To find out about what they did, visit our Extra Activities page.
What a fabulous day we had at C.A.R.E.S today! Although it was very cold, everyone stayed warm by riding bikes around the challenge course and then on the mini road. Students were concentrating on their balance, indicating, scanning the road, turning corners and how to negotiate riding their bikes on the road safely.
Congratulations to those students who managed to keep all of their points on their license! Visit the Excursions page (by clicking through the tabs at the top) to see the photos. I'm sure you will all agree that the Art Show was an absolute success! I have only heard positve comments, and rightly so too. It was a fantastic night with lovely food put on by Mrs de Graaf's parents (thank you very much), entertainment by Kayleen and Giulia (well done girls on a fabulous performance) and brilliant art by your children! If you couldn't make it and you would like to purchase your child's artwork (which I highly recommend) then please pop in to the office this week. If you can't make it in, then send the money in to school in an envelope and your child can bring their work home. $5 each item and most children have 3!
We have had a very hard working team of teachers and friends of the community setting up for tomorrow's Art Show! Thank you to the wonderful helpers! See you all there! I LOVE getting snail mail! Getting letters in the post is something that I will never stop loving. Yesterday, I received a lovely envelope and inside there were two letters and two postcards. I was thrilled to read them as they were from two former students, Ebony-Ella and Jewell. What a lovely surprise! You can read their letters/postcards bellow. (You will need to click on the PDF file to read the letters) Thank you girls! You made my week!
Are your speakers turned on? The song playing is the official World Cup Song! World Cup Fever has hit 5/6S! Have you seen our display out the front of the classroom? Come and check it out!
Everyone has a team they are following (drawn out of a hat) and they are responsible for putting up the scores each day. We are also doing a mini contract on the World Cup (why not when it only happens once every 4 years) and this is due at the end of the first week back to school. It's a bit of fun but everyone is expected to have a go thank you. We all wish Australia the best of luck! There will be some weary eyes for the next month I'm sure (including myself) as we get up early to support Australia and other teams we may be following. Head on over to our PDHPE page (under the Learning Areas tab) to follow what we get up to in class! 5/6S, this is where you can find the instructions to fold your group booklet! Click here Today, the whole school watched an Aboriginal Performance by a man named Tjupurru. He played an instrument called the Didjeribone, a mixture of the Didgeridoo and the Trombone. While playing the Didjeribone he was wearing a Face Bass which is a sensor picking up the vibration of his moving mouth. He played a lot of his songs and Year 6 got to do the limbo with some of the teachers! We all had a lot of fun and we all wish that he will come back next year! Check him out at: www.tjupurru.com Primrose Come and see our fantastic art work!! Next Saturday, 21st June, BPS are holding an Art Exhibition at the 'If U Like Art' studio in Brookvale. It is going to be a fantastic evening so please come along and support your child and the school. The exhibition is from 5:30pm-7:30pm and refreshments will be supplied. Although this is a free event, we ask that you please make a donation on the door. It's important that you RSVP so we can ensure there will be enough food and drinks!
This will be a fantastic opportunity to see your child's art work and you will have the chance to purchase it as well as the class art work! They are all looking fantastic so come along and support the school and your child. Hold your horses everyone! It’s time for 5/6S to show you what we know aboutidioms. This is going to be a piece of cake! Idioms are everywhere in the English language. They have become integrated in everyday speech across all walks of life. We often don’t notice them! 5/6S have 3 plays to share with you that all have different themed idioms in them. The first play is called “Mr Becker Gets the Ball Rolling” and has a lot of sports and games idioms. Have you ever heard of blow by blow? Or in the ballpark? The second play we have for you is called “A Rock ‘n’ Roll Brainstorm” and features idioms related to school and education. Keep your ears out for idioms such as‘make the grade’, ‘brainstorm’ and ‘do the maths’. Our third play is titled “Worms Make My Skin Crawl!” and makes reference to body idioms such as make your skin crawl and two people might be joined at the hip. Thank you for watching! We hope you managed to pick up on some of the idioms we used! On the 10thof June the leadership team went to State Parliament House in the city. We were able to meet Brad Hazzard and introduce ourselves. We were supplied with recess in Mike Baird’s boardroom and that’s where we met other leaders from different schools. We learnt new leadership skills in the lower legislative assembly (Green Room) and got to go inside the upper legislative council (Red Room). Everyone had a photo with Brad Hazzard and a folder with a certificate was given to them by Brad Hazzard as well. Overall our leadership team and everyone else had a very fun time.

Miss SurrestTeaching is my passion! My mum, dad and stepdad are all teachers along with so many of our family friends so I think that it's in my blood.
I was brought up on Sydney's Northern Beaches and absolutely love teaching at Brookvale Public School. I teach Stage 3 (Years 5 & 6) and my class is amazing. They are funny, always willing to learn, adventurous and enthusiastic. Enjoy following our path and seeing what we get up to in 5/6S. Archives
