On the 10thof June the leadership team went to State Parliament House in the city. We were able to meet Brad Hazzard and introduce ourselves. We were supplied with recess in Mike Baird’s boardroom and that’s where we met other leaders from different schools. We learnt new leadership skills in the lower legislative assembly (Green Room) and got to go inside the upper legislative council (Red Room). Everyone had a photo with Brad Hazzard and a folder with a certificate was given to them by Brad Hazzard as well. Overall our leadership team and everyone else had a very fun time.

Visit our English page (or click here) to see what we have been reading! We love reading by ourselves and in small groups. What do you like to read? Can you suggest any great books for us to read as a class? Jeremy's favourite corner in the classroom. He would spend all day here if you let him! I do love it that he is enjoying reading so much at the moment. Keep it up Jeremy! Yesterday, The Sydney Writers’ Festival was the right place to be because Stage Three got to meet famous authors and a famous illustrator. We heard Ursula Dubosarsky and Andrew Joyner read their book Too Many Elephants in This House, a funny speech from Felice Arena, really funny poetry by Steven Herrick and Cornelia Funke read us the first two chapters of her new book. Some of our favourites were when Felice told us about writing stories around sports, Steven read his poems including the one about 10 things your teacher would never say to you and Cornelia got us hooked on her book! Today is National Simultaneous Story Time and the book is Too Many Elephants in This House so we feel extra special that it was read to us by the author and illustrator yesterday! (Joel ) For more photos, visit our Excursions page or click here. Mrs Richardson is kindly giving up one lunch time a week to help the Year 6 students in making a scrapbook of their life. An envelope went home at the beginning of the week containing the term invoices as well as all the permission notes for the term. Stage 3 have a few excursions this term with one NEXT TUESDAY! It is imperative that the notes are returned and the excursion is paid for this week. The excursion is a very exciting one to The Sydney Writers' Festival! We are thrilled to be able to attend. PLEASE GET THE PAYMENT AND NOTES IN ASAP! Thank you to those people who have already returned all the notes and paid. We would hate for anyone to miss out!
Last week, every students in the school received a note about the Multicultural
Perspectives Public Speaking Competition. Everyone will be participating in the school wide competition so it would be fantastic if you could help your child with preparing for this. Although everyone will be participating in the competition, there will be two students who will be selected to represent Brookvale at the local finals in June. Please click here or go to the English Page under Learning Areas to see the topics and a copy of the note. NAPLAN is on this week and Year 3 and Year 5 students are working hard at doing their best in the tests. Flip Sport are coming in to take the dance lessons which are every Wednesday. Today was our first one and we looked at 'barn' dancing. What fun! We looked so stylish in our cowboy hats.
The weather held off and we had a spectacular day with our family and friends! Well done Easter Bunny for your brilliant effort! Great grooving 5/6S. Everyone was so HAPPY! Congratulations Deija, Kayleen and Lucy! You thoroughly deserved the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards this term!
What a wonderful Wednesday we had! This morning we had our school cross country carnival (which included our sponsored run). We started with the older students first who all had to run 4 laps of the course (3km). They did a brilliant job and were very competitive. The Stage 3 students then backed it up with a lap with their buddies! Well done Stage 3! We had so much fun making Easter Hats with our buddies! Stage 3 is taking part in a DMI (Design, Make and Innovate) project in conjunction with Balgowlah Boys High School and Mackellar Girls High School. In this project, they will design, collect materials and construct a toy that can be used by 10 year old children. This will involve two half days and a full day of construction. This will involve cutting, sawing, screwing, chopping, sticking and general construction. We’d love to have some dads (or mums) along to help if you can spare the time. Last year was a great success and we are hoping, with some parental help, this year might be even better!
Half days are 9am-12pm on: Monday 10th and Wednesday 12th March The full day is 9am-3pm on: Monday 17th March Any time you could spare would be very useful and appreciated! So much support for everyone! Congratulations to Amelia for going in I am so excited about this year! What a fantastic class we have and I know that they will all lead the school with pride. We have so much to do this year so there will be a lot of learning but we'll have a blast doing it!
We were very lucky to have a visit from Tim Bailey and the Channel 10 Eyewitness News crew yesterday. They spent the evening filming the weather report live from our veggie patch!! Did you see us? They were very impressed with our chickens, all the fruit and veggies we grow and especially our pizza garden. |
Miss SurrestTeaching is my passion! My mum, dad and stepdad are all teachers along with so many of our family friends so I think that it's in my blood.
I was brought up on Sydney's Northern Beaches and absolutely love teaching at Brookvale Public School. I teach Stage 3 (Years 5 & 6) and my class is amazing. They are funny, always willing to learn, adventurous and enthusiastic. Enjoy following our path and seeing what we get up to in 5/6S. Archives
